Wonderful views and plenty of fresh air and open space away from the hustle and bustle. Can be a bit exposed and chilly in the winter with limited shelter from trees if you explore further from the car park. Popular with dog walkers so be careful where you walk...wish more dog owners would clear up after their pets. Grrrr.
I've never walked my dog in such a beautiful and scenic place. The views are incredible, not too muddy during winter with a variety of pathways to explore. It's a long drive for me but I will never hesitate to go when I have the chance.
If you are in the Haslemere area and it is dry, do take a packed lunch and walk up on Black Down for the very best views of the South Downs National Park, with extensive viewing range out towards the English Channel, definitely one of my Favourite places in the National Park!
At 919ft, Black Down is the highest point in Sussex and the third highest in South-east England. There is a mixture of deciduous and coniferous woodland with ponds and scenic viewpoints. It is a great place for walking, although the paths can get muddy after rain. The National Trust provides two car parks, just off Tennyson's Lane, with footpaths starting from both. Make sure you have a map and clear directions as there are many places where paths divide. I'd recommend aiming for the Temple of the Winds, where there are great views.
Lovely Sunday Morning walk (other days of the week are available!) - from the view point the scenery is breath-taking; far reaching views all the way to the South Coast and the sea.
